Therapies for Mind, Body & Spirit
Treatment Alternatives Center is focused on treating the whole person, via mind, body and spirit (holistic therapy). In order to achieve a total and comprehensive recovery program for each of our clients, we continue to explore and incorporate a wide variety of holistic modalities into our addiction treatment plans with continued outstanding success.
Effective healing and recovery involves many methods, and we have continued to foster excellent outcomes by combining state of the art CBT therapy with holistic therapy to achieve long term sobriety.
Following is a brief explanation of some of the holistic therapies utilized and practiced at Treatment Alternatives Center of Boca Raton, Florida.
EMDR - Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
The goal of EMDR therapy at Treatment Alternatives is to process completely the experiences that are causing emotional problems, and to include new ones that are needed for a satisfying life. “Processing” does not mean talking about it. “Processing” means setting up a learning state that will allow experiences that are causing problems to be “digested” and stored appropriately in your brain.
That means that what is useful to you from an experience will be learned, and stored with appropriate emotions in your brain, and be able to guide you in positive ways in the future. The inappropriate emotions, beliefs, and body sensations will be discarded. Negative emotions, feelings and behaviors are generally caused by unresolved earlier experiences that are pushing you in the wrong directions. The goal of EMDR therapy is to leave you with the emotions, understanding, and perspectives that will lead to healthy and useful behaviors and interactions.
EMDR is now becoming recognized as one of the best therapies for both PTSD and trauma, both of which contribute to the abuse of alcohol and substances. We have great success utilizing this therapy modality at Treatment Alternatives Center.
Nutrition & Physical Wellness Program
Years or even just months of drug and or alcohol abuse can wreak havoc on the body. Most of our clients have poor eating habits, or no idea of proper nutrition and how to go about setting that in place.
However, that is to be expected and why we pay special attention to food and physical wellness here at Treatment Alternatives Center.
Nutrition classes are combined with physical exercise for each client on an individual basis. Eating disorders are treated with a more acute treatment model, and may be referred out to another clinic specializing in eating disorders if necessary. This may not be discovered until one is actively involved in an addiction treatment program.
Yoga – Acupuncture – Meditation – Massage
At Treatment Alternatives Center, holistic recovery modalities include yoga, meditation and acupuncture when applicable for our clients.
Acupuncture is an alternative medicine that treats patients by insertion and manipulation of needles in the body. Its proponents variously claim that it relieves pain, treats infertility, treats disease, prevents disease, or promotes general health. Acupuncture typically incorporates traditional Chinese medicine as an integral part of its practice and theory. However, many practitioners consider ‘Traditional Chinese Medicine’ (TCM) to narrowly refer to modern mainland Chinese practice.
Total wellness is abstinence from drugs and alcohol, but also caring for the body. Typically our clients have lost touch with how their body feels, and yoga exercise along with breathing techniques aid in bringing the whole person into alignment.
Our clients can relax and get well in true comfort, enjoying state of the art therapy, yoga classes, meditation seminars, health and nutrition classes, acupuncture sessions and other holistic services offered which combined ease the mind and heal the body. All of our holistic programs taught by certified professionals, trained in their field of expertise to ensure the highest rate of success possible achieving extremely low relapse rates.

Learning to have fun in recovery while enjoying sober activities is a big part of our program at Treatment Alternatives of South Florida.

Equine Therapy – Animals Heal
At Treatment Alternatives Center, holistic recovery modalities include equine therapy in our addiction treatment and recovery program.
Social skills serve as a foundation for getting along with others. A lack of social skills can lead to behavioral difficulties including but not limited to drug and alcohol abuse. When involved within group settings (e.g. school), inattentiveness, aggression, difficulty with making friends, negative self image and isolation from peers.
The social skills programs purpose is to enhance social-pragmatic skills through interaction and activities with horses and horse related art projects. The focus is on establishing and improving communicative interactions and play relations among peers. The horses will be used as a tool for emotional growth and learning. The availability of the non-threatening and non-judgmental horse environment to practice newly acquired social skills strongly provides these clients with the tools to participate in daily social life.
Horse activities:
According to age and ability of the client, there will be many interactive activities from horse leading and brushing to complex challenges involving the horses. These will require a group or an individual to apply certain skills such as verbal and non-verbal communication, assertiveness, creative thinking and problem solving to achieve a specific goal. This will improve skills in leadership and work ethic, teach client’s to take responsibility, and educate them on teamwork. While working on this array of skills, these activities also foster relationships, confidence, and attitude.
Social Pragmatic Skills:
Mission To enhance and built recessive and expressive language, social-communication, motor coordination and functional task completion in an equine-supported peer group.
Vision Through the magic of horses, enhance social competence and pragmatic communication skills in clients by bringing together B.f. Skinners “Verbal Behavior”, equine assisted therapy and social skills training in a multisensory, intimate “stable” environment.
12 Step Holistic Therapy
12 Step Programs are powerful in the treatment of addictions. Most of our clients enjoy participating, and getting acquainted with the 12 step programs while attending Treatment Alternatives Center. It is an opportunity for those in recovery to engage with like minded people who are also interested in living a happy and contented sober life.
The 12 step philosophy has been effective in helping million get and stay sober, and meetings offer an added layer of sobriety protection. As our clients in treatment transition from a life when they drank alcohol and used substances as recreation, they will find that they now need something to fill that time space with. Many replace the time with 12 step meetings, and what some now call their “positive addiction”. 12 step meetings are available for every addiction; from Alcoholics Anonymous to Narcotics Anonymous in addition to 12 Step support groups for the family members of the addict called Al Anon.
